Tax Office email scam warning
The Tax Office is again warning people to be wary of a graudulent email being circulated that cliams to offer a refund from the Tax Office.
The email fraudulently uses the Tax Office logo, has the words 'Australian Office - Notification' or 'Australian Taxation Office - Please Read This' in the subject line and is similar to another email scam that circulated in March.
If you receive this email, delete it immediately.
"The Taxation Office will never send emails to people asking them to provide personal information including credit card details," Second Commissioner Greg Farr said.
EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS UPDATE
Federal Wage Announcement
On 5 July 2007 the Australian Fair Pay Commission announced its decision to increase adult federal pay scales by $0.27 per hour and junior rates proportionately. This increase will be effective from the first full pay period to commence on or after 1st October 2007.
It is our intention that the actual award wage rates will be made available to financial members prior to these increases taking effect. It is anticipated that the difficulties experienced on the last occasion will not delay publishing the rates on this occasion.
National young workers campaign
The Office of Workplace Services (OWS) is the independent Commonwealth agency ensuring that workplace rights and obligations of workers and employers are protected, understood and enforced fairly.
Tje OWS is undertaking a national education and compliance campaign focussing on young workers aged 15 to 24, as they are seen as a particularly vulnerable group. The campaign will first survey approximately 3500 businesses employing young workers throughout Australia, and a number will be selected for direct compliance audit.
- Pay slip and time and wages record keeping;
- Rates of pay;
- Loadings and penalty rates;
- Non-remunerated additional hours of work; and,
- The process of Australian Workplace Agreement making and lodgement.
When OWS inspectors conduct the audits, they will work first with the employer and employees to ensure any identified issues are resolved voluntarily. If voluntary compliance is no achieved, the OWS may undertake further action to ensure the requirements are met.
